Death Rate
The number of deaths in North America has risen by 1% annually between 1980 and 1998, and is expected to continue to grow at a similar rate. The growth in death rate results not only from an increase in the overall population, but also from the demographics of an ageing population as the baby boomer generation matures. The historic and forecast statistics for the United States are summarized below.

The anticipated increases in population and the death rate provide a favourable outlook for future market demand for death care services for at least the next forty years. Consequently, both the short- and long-term future of the death care industry in North America is considered to be relatively secure as the industry is relatively stable and the market served by death care providers is expanding.
