The OTC Journal "First Look"

My first idea of 2009- the "easy money trade" published on Jan 2- TBT at $39 (inverse long bond)- $51 today (net 60% in margin account). How about that FXI I've been pounding the table on from $25- $34 (72% on margin) today and going a lot higher.

Let's look at this year's small stocks- even from a short term trading perspective: Ufood Grill (UFFC)- $.12 to $.36 in 3 days for a 200% return. Two stock that have floundered did fantastic in the first couple of days: Single Touch (SITO): $2 to $2.50 for a 25% return in two trading days. Even Options Media (OPMG)- $.50 to a high of $.76 in two trading days for a 52% return. Procera Networks (PKT): $.80 to $1.05 (31% in a couple of weeks).

The point- the OTC Journal first look can be the best look, and a great opportunity to notch some profits.

I'm going to present a an OTC Journal "first look" on Thursday, and I expect this one to trade extremely well as facts start to come out about the company. It's a solar story- this company has the competitive advantage to the huge government contracts that will be coming down the pike as President Obama turns US government installations "GREEN".

Here's some background information.

The Greening of America: Your Path To Wealth

It's only a matter of time before the billions of dollars earmarked by President Obama for alternative and clean energy, scientific research and various environmental projects turn the United States a darker shade of green

Convinced that a new era of prosperity can be ushered in by weaning America from its two century long energy-wasting habits, Obama vows to invest $150 billion in clean energy projects over 10 years and create 5 million new 'green-collar' jobs.

From the organic vegetable garden, to using greener cleaning products and recycling in the East and West wings of the White House, he's certainly practicing what he's been preaching.

From wind and solar power, to high-speed rails and roads, to utility reforms and the greening of federal buildings, it's a grandiose vision indeed.

A major component of the stimulus package calls for spending $25 billion to make schools and other public buildings more energy efficient. The Energy Independence and Security Act in 2007 requires that energy consumption by federal buildings be reduced 30% by 2015

The bulk of Obama's $5.5 billion allocation will go toward installation of solar panels on Federal building roofs as well as to install high-tech energy meters and smart lighting systems that adjust to daylight.

Government agencies will be on a pretty tight schedule. The following timetable shows the specific percentages and deadlines for power resources they must meet to increase renewable sources:

  • 3% or more in fiscal years 2007 through 2009
  • 5% or more in fiscal years 2010 through 2012
  • 7.5% or more by 2013

That's a 150% increase from where we are today in the percentage of energy sourced from renewable means by 2013. In the Obama Administration, solar will be the primary focus.

The government believes that bigger projects like these can be quickly deployed. After the stimulus bill passed, the Obama administration said contracts should be awarded within 90 days.

One example of the 500 ready-to-go projects is the Internal Revenue Service building in Andover, Mass. The building has a structure and location that make it a good candidate for solar roof panels that will reduce heating and cooling loads and provide electricity for the building.

Energy use per square foot in U.S. buildings hasn't budged much in the past 90 years; since 1920. Buildings account for 39 percent of total energy use and 68 percent of electricity - roughly half of it from coal. And those stark facts have green building advocates looking for new ways to move forward.

The transition to a renewable energy economy is already proving to be a powerful economic engine. Before the current recession, clean energy was the fastest-growing industrial sector in the United States. Sales of new materials and equipment for the renewable energy sector - steel, gears, wind turbines, solar panels, insulation, software, high tech batteries, gauges, and hundreds of other products - reached $25 billion in the U.S this year, up from less than $10 billion in 2004.

We're still in the infancy stages of planning and developing ways for all of the above to actually happen...although the Federal solar transformation may happen sooner than later.

When money begins to be dolled out to industries involved in all of the above aspects of turning America green, we'll see skyrocketing profits for companies and shareholders will notch major gains in the right stocks.

Someone is going to be landing major contracts for the retrofitting of many government buildings with Solar Panels and other alternative energy sources. One company truly has the inside track thanks to a unique relationship.

Do You Twitter?

About a year ago I asked my techies if there was any way we could get ideas to investors with text messaging to cell phones. I was prepared to spend some money as I saw this as the easiest way to quickly notify investors of important events.

The folks at TWITTER did it for me, and it's all free. Worth waiting for. Set up your TWITTER account (free), and become a follower of the OTC Journal. I'll use it for quick updates and coming events.

Just go to www.twitter.com, and enroll. From there, adding to your Twitter network is a little tricky, and there's a learning curve. Then, go to the home page at www.otcjournal.com, and click on the "Follow" button on the Twitter box. Or, go directly to http://twitter.com/otcjournal.
