Market Comment

It seems as if everyone on Wall Street is celebrating Holloween early this year masquerading as Death of the Equity Markets, and enjoying the usual October blood bath.

In truth, our little universe of small and microcap stocks have been selling off since mid July.  This is normal in market cycles, and to be expected.  There is a silver lining.  We are seeing almost no sell-side pressure in any of the issues that we follow and report on.  It seems that every one that was going to sell has done so, and stocks are making excellent bottoms.  The absence of buyers is the only thing holding many stocks down.  When buy side volume returns small stocks should trade up very well.

For what it's worth, we think that the remainder of this year will be choppy and volatile to the downside, which sets us up for a great year in 2,000.  We believe that the year 2,000 will be outstanding for stocks across the board, including large, small, and microcap stocks.  Aggressive investors should start accumulating their favorite stocks for a strong rebound.  Year 2000's profits are made by investing today.  Sir John Templeton, considered one of the fathers of the mutual fund industry, said "I always made the most money when I bought at the point of maximum pessimism".

Not allowing adverse market conditions to affect your thinking about the positions you hold is a key component in long-term investing success.  Our monthly columnist, Dr. Richard Geist (HARVARD PhD) has written an excellent article this month entitled THE EMOTIONAL IMPACT OF SHORT SELLERS ON INVESTORS .  This is a MUST READ for all investors.

Crayon Crawler and 1st Net Update

There were two press releases issued yesterday by our parent company, 1st Net Technologies (OTC BB: FNTT).   As always, we remind you that any thing we print about 1st Net should be considered self-serving and a conflict of interest.

Both news releases concern the Crayon Crawler, 1st Net's exciting new browser designed to protect kids from the dangers of the Internet.  The Crayon Crawler is a product that we believe will put 1st Net on the map, both on Wall Street and Main Street.

The first news release discusses the Federal Trade Commissions' final rule which implements the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998, making a formal acknowledgment once again of the need to safeguard children on the burgeoning Internet.

As of April 21, 2,000, this new law will require certain commercial web sites to obtain parental permission before collecting any data on children.  Once installed and in use, the Crayon Crawler browser has the effect of enforcing this law.  To read the full text of this press release, simply click here, and a web page will open with the release.

The second news release is designed to make investors aware that 1st Net plans to unveil the final commercial version of the Crayon Crawler at the upcoming COMDEX Fall '99 show in November.

COMDEX is the largest computer and electronics show in the world.  It is always held in Las Vegas, and this year's event is November 15th to 19th at the world famous Las Vegas convention center.  The keynote speaker is Bill Gates, infamous founder of Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT).  It is estimated that 750,000 people go to Las Vegas every year for COMDEX.   There is an enormous amount of media coverage on new products at this convention.

The Crayon Crawler will be formerly introduced for commercial use at the show.  The Crayon Crawler will be featured at booth No. L1413.  To read the full text of the press release, simply click here.
